I am using JUMP at Home Grade 2 with my 8 year old daughter who has been struggling and not progressing in math. This program has been successful in helping her grasp concepts that she was unable to comprehend with other programs. Although the workbook pages are simple and straightforward, I have found that the teacher’s manual has been very beneficial and has helped my daughter by giving her added practice and additional information. The manual may be copied for free on the JUMP website. I have found that by including Daily Word Problems Grade 2 and Addition the Fun Way! to help memorize facts is providing a good foundation for my student that has always found math very difficult and confusing.

LOVE IT!

We are loving the new Pre-Algebra 2.0. My daughter has always struggled with math. She has never enjoyed math. After playing around with all of the free sample lessons, we knew this was the math program for us. The first day we got this my daughter did 6 lessons and a test! She loves it! We have actually had to set a limit of one to two lessons per day. lol She will just sit down and do math all day now if we let her. I think that says a lot. She actually enjoys math now. I never thought that would happen. I love that it grades everything for me, and that I can go into the grade book and see what she has done, and what she scored on each lesson. My only regret is that I didn’t order it through Timberdoodle. I didn’t know they carried it. I would have loved the 24 hour shipping! If you have a child that struggles with math, I highly recommend this math program. We will never use another math program from now on.

I purchased JUMP at Home Grade 3 to help my daughter who was struggling with her math. JUMP was a reasonably priced option for what I wanted. It is doing what I wanted it to do, giving her something different while still strengthening her math skills. I like the different approach that is helping my daughter look at things in a different light. I have to agree with the publisher though, I don’t feel this is a stand-alone program. Each lesson is somewhat isolated, there is no review after moving on to a new concept. It also does not cover reading clocks at all in Grade 3, which is a pretty common subject for third graders to still be mastering. I’m not sure if it is covered in a different grade or not, but there should be some review of it in Grade 3. Overall, I’m happy with it as an accompaniment to the program we were using. It has a strong emphasis on mental math which is beneficial to students at this level. It was well worth the price.

Pretty good for spiral method

I am not a huge fan of the spiral method but we needed something to make sure we had some areas covered for testing. This workbook does a very thorough job of covering a lot of concepts including patterns, fractions and decimals. The directions were easy to follow. It was easy to get a bit lost in the amount of work on each page but overall we have been pleased. We are in our second week using these books and they are a great way to make sure we have covered a lot of topics. I still prefer the mastery method of teaching math but I think this is a great workbook using the spiral method.

Wonderful!! My son and I love it!

We bought this (Teaching Textbook Math 5) for our eight year old son who was spending 3 hours a day doing 3rd grade Horizons Math. We just bought it about two months ago and he is half way through with it already! He loves it and so do I! He sits down, listens to the lecture and does the problems in about 20 minutes everyday and I don’t have to do anything!! Teaching Textbooks has certainly made things a lot easier for both of us! We plan to use it from now on for our son and for our daughters also as soon as they are old enough.

My daughter struggled learning her times tables. It was too challenging and emotional for her and me. I fretted over what to do and prayed. I remembered hearing about wrapups and wondered if it would help her. It was the answer. Once she had the math in her hands she took off. Before we couldn’t move forward in math, but this was the tool that opened up the door for her and got her on her way to math success. She is doing very well now and I am grateful and less stressed as to whether she would ever achieve any success in math. If any parent is struggling with a child who is reluctant in math, perhaps the child hasn’t grasped their basic tables. It is essential to memorize these for math success and the math wrapups could be the answer for your child. They have worked wonders for us.

My 4th grade son and 5th grade daughter have used Teaching Textbook 4 and Teaching Textbook 5 this year. We will be doing another curriculum next year. We’ve found the sound effects distracting and frustrating and the constant coaching belittling. My daughter actually asked to go back to Saxon Math (which I did not like teaching). We’ve found Teaching Textbooks to be below grade level compared to many other products. The main advantage that we’ve seen with this product is that the parent does not have to spend any time on math. If your child is younger and wants to make a video game out of math, or you are a parent that wants to spend no time teaching math, then this is for you.

Another view of Teaching Textbooks

I get tears in my eyes as I remember the struggle Saxon’s Algebra 1 was for our oldest daughter. Even with the D.I.V.E. program she just could not get through some problems. We have completely switched from all other Math to Teaching Textbooks where we can. Our 3rd grader is still working on Miquon and Developmental Math and I am thinking that I will begin him on Math 5 after he finishes 3rd grade. Our 5th grader, who only did Miquon Red and Orange and DM3-12, is whizzing through the Math 5, loving it and doing really well. I just want to cry when I think of this wonderful program! We gladly spend on these courses knowing that all of the children coming behind will be able to use it in the future. Our 4 children all love it and the youngest is eagerly waiting until he can start! A note about the Math 5, our daughter does not even use the CDs. It is very usable with the textbook alone. I thank God for the Sabouri’s and Timberdoodle.

I love Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra! A dignified, gentle teacher carefully explains each lesson. If my daughter got any wrong or needs review, there is a solution CD that will show her exactly how to do each problem. There is a lot of review built in to the program. TT has greatly freed up my time as the teacher (which helps since I have several children). The only downside to Teaching Textbook Pre-Algebra is that we were used to the lower levels that are more computer interactive with an automatic gradebook. This one requires manual grading so there is a delay in knowing if a solution is correct or not. I called Teaching Textbooks and they said they are working on converting their entire line to be like Math 3-7. That will make it perfect. It is expensive, but I feel you get what you pay for. It far surpasses a regular textbook. It also holds incredibly high resale value on places like eBay. I highly recommend it!
