Morphology Junior Game

Great family game! This is a great game for families--it's fun and challenging for all ages. The rule adaptations from the "original" Morphology are well-designed to make play easier for the younger kids, but it keeps the quirky/crazy feel. Typing Instructor for KIDS Platinum 5.0 Windows

This (Typing Instructor for KIDS Platinum 5.0 Windows) is a nice, varied program that keeps my ADHD daughter’s interest. She has done well learning where the keys are and how to position her hands. The two major drawbacks to this program are that, one, the speaking voices can be rather annoying at times; and, two, as with any computer typing program, you’re going to have to monitor your child to make sure they’re really keeping their hands in the correct position. Otherwise, the games are fun and it does help them to learn to type.

Mathematical Reasoning B Grade 1

Mathematical Reasoning B Grade 1

I have browsed math curriculum for 12 years and this is by far the BEST math curriculum for younger grades that I have seen and used! I was not a good math student, and spent a lot of time researching the math curriculum out there so that my children will have an easier time learning than I did. It is pricier than most consumable workbooks, but one workbook is all that we needed for one year for each of our children, and to find an excellent book that breaks down such an important subject so simply and that the kids ENJOY doing it, and they LEARN it WELL – is definitely worth it. I am absolutely confident that they have the math basics SOLIDLY understood. The pages are bright and colorful, and keep a good mix of simpler and increasingly challenging activities going throughout the pages for both review while also introducing new concepts. I wish they’d continue this series through high school!

Exploring Creation with Botany

Exploring Creation with Botany.

I know this series is billed as for elementary kids, but my rising 5th and 7th graders did it independently and loved it!

As science flunkies (we start, we stop, we don’t accomplish much) we hadn’t completed much, if any formal elementary science. They began this book in late May and I set them a schedule of one chapter per week. They did the reading on their own and discussed questions and completed experiments together. I required them to each keep a notebook of vocabulary and other notes (more for the older child). My younger child, who enjoys art, loved the drawing projects. For my older dd, it was a good introduction to taking notes and reading a text in preparation for high school.

They learned SO MUCH (and not just because they had had little previous science!) My younger dd, especially, still, a year later uses the technical terms she learned in this book, referring to monocots and dicots and intelligently discussing fungi.

They have since moved on to other books in the series, completing them in the same way. I think this is a great series for independent learning for older students.

The Usborne Sticker Dressing Soldiers

The Usborne Sticker Dressing Soldiers

The Usborne Sticker Dressing Soldiers

I’m impressed! This book (The Usborne Sticker Dressing Soldiers) is a generous size, the stickers are bright and I love the little history “bites” for each war/soldier. My daughter’s eyes lit up as it came out of the box and it is her favorite school activity. The stickers are heavy weight and are able to be repositioned (which is nice when a jacket goes on upside down!). I have to assist her with some of the more trickier pieces, like swords or shoes, her fingers aren’t able to manipulate the sticker edges yet. However, as the pages are being finished it makes a nice book. The younger girls can’t wait for their turn to have a soldier book! I would (and will) certainly purchase this again.

miniLUK Starter Pack

miniLUK Starter Pack

This (miniLUK Starter Pack) came with our first grade package for my 7yr old, but my autistic 5yr has claimed it as his. He absolutely loves these MiniLuk games. Once he figured out how the game worked he proceeded to sit down and work thru an entire book, which is a rarity for us. For those of us with special needs kids finding something they really enjoy is such a special moment. Had it not come with the curriculum package we would of never known about it. Thanks much!

miniLUK Starter Pack

I ordered the 1st grade curriculum and when I saw that it came with the MiniLUK I honestly didn’t know what to think.  What I did think was that my son was going to have trouble with it and probably not like it.  Boy, was I wrong.  I had opened it up to figure it out and he starts playing with it.  He spent the whole evening playing with the MiniLUK.  My husband had to drag my son away from it so he could go to bed.  I am excited about buying more books for this game.  This is defiantly worth the money!
