Teaching Textbook Math 4

We love Teaching Textbooks 4. I’ve used it for my advanced 3rd grader and my 4th grader. Both kids love using the computer. It makes math seem like a computer game to them. It has great review of previous concepts and is very thorough. It has taken the stress out of teaching math for me. It’s all done for me! I did, however, add some timed math drills just to keep them sharp on the math facts. We love it and recommend it.

Mathematica Reasoning A Kindergarten

I cannot say enough about this program, I’ve used it for K5, 1st and 3rd, and its so thorough, FULL of critical thinking…my K5 little man BEGS to do math everyday, so much so that he’s finished it well before he should! Its so easy to teach new concepts! After using Horizons, Abeka, and Rod and Staff while banging my head daily, this is a breath of fresh air, and I so wish it went up to 6th grade!

The Quarter Mile Math – “Not quite what I expected”

The Quarter Mile Math

I purchased this (The Quarter Mile Math) hoping it would be helpful for my 7 and 9 year old to learn their math facts, since they don’t enjoy flash card reviews.  They enjoy it somewhat, but they get so anxious about trying to be fast enough to win the races, that they make a lot of mistakes, then get frustrated with their results.  When they do use it, we turn the sound off.  ( the roar of the car engines or the galloping hoof beats are just too distracting)  I am sure that when they have a really good grasp of their math facts, and can rattle them off without much effort..the game will hold more interest for them.  For now, while they are still trying to learn them, it just isn’t quite what I had in mind.

Teaching Textbooks Algebra 2

Teaching Textbooks Algebra 2

EVERYTHING is explained!

After using Saxon and ABeka math for years, our children have really enjoyed the switch to Teaching Textbooks.  EVERYTHING is explained! Teacher preparation time is a minimum.  This curriculum has interesting facts about the history of mathematics woven into the lessons; witty tutorial computer CD’s that visibly teach and are searchable by problem; and student-friendly grading keys. It is the perfect 4th-12th mathematics curriculum!!

Teaching Textbooks Math 5

Teaching Textbooks Math 5

I finally had to admit I was exhausted. I was trying to homeschool four children with toddler twins and a new baby on the way. Each day I felt like we were barely getting through the basics of language arts and math. Each child required individual instruction which could take up to an hour each. By the time you added in all the regular household responsibilities, I was stretched thin. When I found Teaching Textbooks, even the price wasn’t enough to scare me off. This one purchase alone could save me on average three hours of instruction and another hour of grading per day. We purchased all available levels for our kids. Now their math is improving and the kids actually look forward to completing their lessons! They are thrilled with the instant feedback and I appreciate the automatic gradebook and the instant breakdown of whether or not they are watching the solution after missing a problem. We’re hooked and I don’t see us ever using a different math program.

Horizons Math Grade 2

Horizons Math Grade 2

My daughter finished another Christian curriculum’s 2nd grade math early and I wanted to review her skills before moving onto 3rd grade level work.  I’ve heard good things about Horizons and decided to try out the teacher’s manual and 2nd grade, book 2 (for the 2nd semester).  Horizons covers more things and in a better way than our previous curriculum.  We used to use an Asian math curriculum alongside an American Christian school’s curriculum which was supposed to be very advanced/accelerated.  Horizons covers the topics in a better way.  I will not longer need to supplement with the Asian math curriculum as Horizons covers the how-to’s and the word problems effectively.  I’m planning on ordering the 3rd grade math ASAP.

Miquon Math

Miquon Math

Miquon Math is a staple in our home. Even if we use other curriculum we always come back to Miquon. It is fun and just makes the kids want to get involved with math. It is a fabulous, non-intimidating introduction to Math. Kids that start with Miquon ENJOY Math. 4 Stars only so you will realize that you need to pair it with Math drill work to really cement the math facts. But it is TOTALLY worth it!

Mind Benders Beginning Book 1

Mind Benders Beginning Book 1

My boys first attempted these types of problems in “Beginning Mathematical Reasoning” (another great product by Critical Minds), and they just loved them. I’ve always enjoyed doing logic problems myself, so it was a joy to see my children puzzling things out and drawing appropriate conclusions. This kind of thinking can only aid in any number of other subjects in which a child makes a deduction based on given information. The only negative, if you can call it that, is that I had to read the clues aloud to my still-learning-to-read set.

Teaching Textbooks Geometry

Teaching Textbooks Geometry

Geometry has been my ‘A’ homeschool student’s downfall.  She loved the Rod & Staff math program, but that ends at 8th grade.  For ninth grade, we started Geometry with a ’standard’ textbook.  She HATED it!   We suffered through us trying together ( no good!);  a private tutor (a math grad student from a nearby ivy-league college);  finding him ineffectual and expensive,  we ‘dumped’ him;   then, she tried boarding school (still couldn’t ‘get’ geometry, even with a ‘real’ high school teacher) and came home again; then, we changed  textbooks — and that’s when… the cheating started!    Mom had a FIT!!!!! Daughter was properly humbled, but, having ‘failed’ four times, balked at starting again.  I couldn’t blame her ( I’m not a ‘math’ lover), but I couldn’t let her get away with giving up, either. THEN, I saw the write-up on Teaching Textbook GEOMETRY.  It seemed too good to be true — a very clear, self-teaching, method for geometry that was fun and required no parental input.  Before I sent for it, I showed her the information in your catalogue, and she was so excited that she asked every day if it had come yet.  ( Deep down, she didn’t really want to give up…)  When it arrived, she grabbed it and vanished into her room.  Emerged several hours later with a big bright smile and the news that she had done the first THREE lessons and gotten 100% — AND SHE UNDERSTOOD IT!! Since that thrilling start, she has blasted through the book, achieving her goal of three lessons a day and !00% scores  (honestly).  She’s now through the first third , in less than ONE month, with genuine scores of 100%.  Without being pushed or harassed. Even without watching her DVD, although it feels secure to have it.    Thank you!!!  We LOVE this system!  We’re looking forward to the next book.

Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1

My children attend a school where a reform math program is in place. I quickly realized that they would not be successful in fully understanding and practicing math concepts unless I supplemented with another more straight forward program. Teaching Textbook Algebra 1 was a great solution. The text and CD were so easy to understand and given that the subject material was grouped by concept, it was very easy for me to pick out assignments for them to do.  My daughter improved her ACT score significantly using this as practice and after my son started using this as a supplement, his math comprehension and grade was also much improved.  Although our story is slightly different because we are not homeschoolers, I would highly recommend this for anyone interested in helping their child succeed in math. More and more the public and private schools are using curriculum that are not proven and have many flaws. The Teaching Textbook series is a way to easily help your student.
