Typing Instructor for KIDS Platinum 5.0 Windows

This (Typing Instructor for KIDS Platinum 5.0 Windows) is a nice, varied program that keeps my ADHD daughter’s interest. She has done well learning where the keys are and how to position her hands. The two major drawbacks to this program are that, one, the speaking voices can be rather annoying at times; and, two, as with any computer typing program, you’re going to have to monitor your child to make sure they’re really keeping their hands in the correct position. Otherwise, the games are fun and it does help them to learn to type.

Purpllinker

Purpllinker

Much better than I expected!

We got this for our 4-year-old daughter, and it has been used so much! She loves to make letters with it, although it bothers her a little that she can’t really do curves. However, she is happy just doing pointy letters with it, as well as using it in many other ways. Her baby brother also loves to manipulate it. What is it that makes this little plastic object so fascinating? I’m not quite sure, but it is definitely a hit around here. It can be made into many different shapes, and is also a great toy for the car. One thing I especially like about it is the way it has allowed my daughter to grasp some of the directionality of letters. She figured out by using the Purpllinker how N and Z, M and W, etc., are the same shape, just turned different ways.

Anaconda deserves a 10 star rating!

Anaconda

As a former home school parent, I’ve been familiar with Timberdoodle for years. As a classroom teacher in public and private schools, when I needed quality, “thinking” games and activities for my classroom students, I continued to turn to Timberdoodle. I currently teach in Alaska. When I first discovered Anaconda in the fall of 2011, I thought it looked like the coolest logic puzzle ever. I purchased one for my resource classroom. Boys and girls ages 6-15 love Anaconda. Even some of my students who are learning disabled enjoy figuring out how to solve these puzzles with occasional help from me. I’ve watched children work together on one puzzle and enjoy sharing their ideas. Once one puzzle is accomplished, they are eager to move on to the next. Nobody is interested in looking at the solutions at the back of the book because they enjoy being ‘puzzled’ so much :) Adding more of these puzzles to my classroom arsenal is a given. One is not enough.

The Usborne Sticker Dressing Knights

The Usborne Sticker Dressing Knights

What child wouldn’t love this! A sticker book about knights! My daughter loves this book. She is all about. Princesses, princes, knights and castles so this book was right up her alley! When we are through with it, it will make a nice book for us to keep. I do sort of wish the stickers were reusable, but it’s ok that they aren’t we still have the soldier and knight books, and they aren’t too expensive so we will keep buying them as they come out with more. It’s a great book that incorporates something most kids love, stickers! :) . How can you go wrong with that?

ReCon 6.0 Programmable Rover

ReCon 6.0 Programmable Rover

Great Product for Hand On Learners

We purchased this robot for our 10 yr. old son as a Christmas gift. He loved it and still does. In no time at all, he had it delivering cokes to his Dad, dancing, & all sorts of things. He loves the recording feature on it so that he can make it talk and respond to people. As a homeschooling Mom, I love the educational aspects of it. While he is “playing” he is learning computer programming skills, math, critical thinking, creative thinking, & much more. I also like that it is a very durable product. Our son is all boy; active, rough, & tough; and this robot has stood the test with him. Great product, Timberdoodle!!

Extreme Dot to Dot Animals

Extreme Dot to Dot Animals

Awesome animal dot-to-dots

We bought this for our 10 year old son. He loves dot-to-dots. He spent many hours working on these. In fact, it looked like so much fun I would often find myself hovering over him wanting to do them myself. There are so many in the book to choose from. Definitely a great buy!

Poke-A-Dot Old MacDonald’s Farm

Poke-A-Dot Old MacDonald's Farm

We like this book a lot! My 1 and 2 year old both enjoy popping the buttons and looking at the pictures. I really like the way this book encourages counting in a tangible way. My 2 year old often will try to “count” very quickly and skip numbers, so when we are looking at this book I am able to show him that there is still a button or two that aren’t popped yet and encourage him to slow down and count each one. Doing this helps him focus on counting the animals on each page before going on to the next page. It is also a good book to take along in the car because the buttons are so much fun to pop! We liked the book so much that we gave a copy as a gift to two of my kids’ cousins.

Kid-O A to Z Magnatab Magnetic Writing Tablet

Resource for Special Needs

Our 5yo son has Down syndrome. This has been a wonderful resource to assist with learning handwriting. He really struggles with pencil grip because of low muscle tone in his hands. Anything we can do to get him interesting in holding a writing implement is key! And, what child doesn’t love magnets? A wonderful tool and fun “toy” for any child!

Early Science Explorer’s Set

Early Science Explorer's Set

Great tools for our nature study!

I bought this for my daughter when she was four years old. We have used it countless times over the past couple of years, mostly for our nature walks and nature studies. Both items are oversized and “chunky”, perfect for younger children. Also, the larger magnifying glass area makes it even easier for multiple children to see what is being viewed at the same time! My daughter has both items packed in her backpack, ready to explore God’s great outdoors!
