Canadian Farmboy Turns Self Into A One Man Band

Friday, August 28th, 2009

This Friday’s video clip from the past is an assortment of short news-clips.

My favorite? The Canadian farm boy who ingeniously turns himself into a one-man band playing the piano, violin, guitar, harmonica, bass drum, snare drum, triangle, wood blocks, cymbals, cowbells and chime – together! Inspire your musically inclined homeschooler!

Friday, August 21st, 2009

This Friday’s movie clip from the past is for your inquisitive homeschooled child.

An olden day ad for Chevrolet, this clip is full of information on friction, what it does for speed and how it impacts the design of a brake pad in Chevrolet vehicles.

I can already think of one homeschooled child I know who would especially enjoy this clip!

Make Fun Picture Slide-shows For Free!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Here is a cool website, Animoto, we just discovered, which enables you to make short (30 second) slide shows for free. You can also upgrade for a $30 year subscription that allows you to make longer shows.

Besides just goofing around with our own family pictures since we found it, we have also used it during a therapy session with an autistic child. In our experience, we have seen that some of the special needs children we have worked with enjoy seeing pictures/videos of themselves, and find that very rewarding. Animoto enabled us to do this on the fly, taking pictures during therapy and then with just a few clicks, rewarding the child’s hard work at the end of therapy with a fun slide-show of…himself!!

Here is a sample video we put together – snapshots of Timberdoodle during this current heat wave.

Have fun!!
